Remember We Are Scientists?
I don’t give them enough credit. Brooklyn kids with a sense of humor, good creative, and catchy hooks. The last gig I went to of theirs was at the Garage in Islington and a really, truly shit experience - but that’s not their fault. At least it was free! Time spent with a ghost of someone I loved, however..
Anyway, I’m gonna go dive back into ‘05 and listen to this while I flesh out a new brief : lots of exciting deadlines on the horizon. And with any luck, a flight back home to Blighty soon. Missing proper tea and the general madness that is London life.
Sundays are meant for digging out old audible treasures and taking it easy if you can.
I was thinking about BA today, about how young I was when I first laid eyes on ‘em. I had long, blonde, curly hair and I was wearing a cardigan - the color of which can only be described as pea soup. It was a questionable time in my style history. But I was there, with a friend I made at a gig of another band I can’t remember. S… Their name started with an S. I was there for We Are Scientists, but I knew enough about them from their MySpace page to bop my head along at all the right parts. This really sweet charmer of a high school senior was talking to me all night about obscure records and german TV shows and wouldn’t take my picture with WAS unless I gave him a goodnight kiss. It’s always the cheeky ones. Anyway, more than nostalgia - what I was reminded of today is the creative vigor that their EP a Month project required. To illustrate, package, and record a new EP every month and put it out for release in the physical world (not just digital download) is a massive undertaking. Crazy, even. But they did it, and the songs are gold.
Makes me feel better on nights like this, when I’ve got a tight deadline and a big idea.
Now you are my mistake, and I am yours.
Having a Sondre afternoon. The man knows his way around words and music.
Oooh, acoustic. Yes please.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Lana this week in prep for my latest mixelleogy video. Turns out, after avoiding her music for ages purely out of disinterest for what’s on the radio, some of it’s really pretty good.
Not earth shattering news, but this song’s the warmest of the lot and has found a home on my latest playlists.
On that note : the video should be up within the next few hours! I’ll make sure to post it here once it’s up.
